The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Today I saw the film The Amazing Spider-Man and I have got to say it was excuse the pun Amazing I saw the film with a good friend of mine and we both enjoyed it.
I consider this film to be better then the Sam Rami Spider-Man movies of the early 2000s. Warning Spoilers.

Spider-Man, fatally wounded, swings through New York City. Text at the bottom of the reveals the title, release date, release formats, official site of the film, rating and studio credits.
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy respectfully and they do a fantastic job. I enjoy watching Andrew Garfield more then I did watching Tobey Maguire as spider-man, I feel like the Spider-Man films of the early 2000s were to cheesy then they should have been Spider-Man needs to have a  Deadpan Snarker humour that Andrews Spider-Man has which Spider-man has in the comics. Maguire's Spider-Man didn't have that and that's one of the things I enjoyed about this film.
Also Gwen Stacy in this film is SMART something that MJ in the first three movies didn't have, maybe I should explain a bit more in the first three films I felt all that MJ was there for was to get kidnapped and scream which happened in all three movies. While In The Amazing Spider-Man Gwen accurately helped Spider-Man with the cure for Curt Connors, MJ never did that. Also it helps that in real life Andrew and Emma are dating so that helps this film out heaps.

I can't wait for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 I really hope all the actors and actress's come back. I will be collecting this film for my film collection when it comes out on DVD.

bit of trivia for you  did you know that the OsCorp building in this film was almost put in the skyline of the Avengers film but they ran out of time? I really hope that Spider-Man appears in the next Avengers film.

Men in Black 3 a 2012 Film review

It was been ten years since MIB2, has the ten year difference affected the feel of the new movie?
short answer yes.

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back as J and K and this time J is heading back to 1969 to stop an alien from killing and removing K from history so that his race who thrive of destroying planets can destroy earth.

This film has a lot of good jokes in fact every joke in the film works and made me laugh especially the jokes when agent J goes back in time. unlike
As I have been busy with other things my memory of the movie has faded a bit so all I will say is that I enjoyed the film and it's in my own option better then MIB 2.
I have heard that they may make a fourth one as this one was successful. Also Frank the pug who appears in the first two films is not in this one though he is referenced on a billboard and in agent J's apartment.

a proper blog.....wow

Well I haven't written a proper blog in a while and its probably time I did. So anyway, the other day I handed in some TAFE work which is getting marked at the moment so I will most likely get some feedback in the next couple of days. On the weekend I saw Men In Black 3 with a friend of mine I will try and post a review of it once I figure out what to say about it. As I really enjoyed it. Also went to a club for a 22nd first time I have been to a club was interesting but I think I will try and stay away from them from now on as its not really my scene.

I found out its my sisters birthday today.....which I forgot about nice one Oliver. She is now a teenager. So I need to figure out what to get her.
Haven't been to church in a while and must get back to it. TAFE been keeping me busy.  hmmm what else is there I need to talk about. Oh also I saw Dark Shadows with Mum and her partner. It wasn't that good I enjoyed MIB3 a lot more. But I have already covered that In my Dark Shadows review. Well I guess that's it I can't think of anything else to talk about now.
Oh last Friday I fell over at work and grazed myself a bit but I'm ok and almost healed. Should be fully healed by the end of the week.

Dark Shadows A movie review (2012)

Hi haven't written anything recently so I thought I would write something about this film, the film known as Dark Shadows based on the Gothic TV series Dark Shadows from 1966-71. I have not seen the TV series so it has nothing to do with this review anyway I'm rambling. Going into the cinema I knew that this film had received both good and bad reviews with the most being bad so I had mixed feelings on it.

I do agree with some of the things the critics have said like that the use of a 1970s setting helps the film and I also agree that considering that Burton seems to give Johnny Depp roles in all his films seems a bit stale now.
A lot of the jokes in the film manly centred around  Barnabas (Depp) learning about 70s pop culture, though some of these jokes feel flat since it was basically the same thing over and over again. Barnabas either sets of the pop culture reference by doing something near it for example throwing a construction worker into an electric pole which powers the McDonald's sign etc. The other person that Burton seems to keep giving roles to in his movies his Helena Bonham Carter Burton's wife. Tim we get it you like to put your wife in your movies but it gets dull after awhile when I see Tim Burton movies its like 'ok where is Johnny and/or where's Helena as I guarantee that they will be in the film. The other characters were fun to watch as well Eva Green who I last saw in 2006 in Casino Royal did a good job as  Angelique Bouchard the vengeful witch out to give Barnabas a hard time, like turning him into a vampire and all that thus giving Barnabas the taste for blood. Hey what's wrong with that oh right being immortal and killing people. I personalty enjoyed watching both Chloë Grace Moretz and Gulliver McGrath as  Carolyn Stoddard and  David Collins respectfully.

Oh and Alice Cooper and Christopher Lee make cameos although Lee does not Cameo has himself.

This is just a short review today I give Dark Shadows 3 out of 5 stars not that good but not that bad so around the middle, for me its a film to see for just some senseless fun for an hour and a half and if you saw the original TV series you will probably enjoy it two.

Pulp Fiction 1994 retro film review.

Hi all got another review for you.
The cult classic Pulp Fiction. By Quentin Tarantino.

Directed by Quentin Tarantino Pulp Fiction tells a story in different parts that are out of order. Starting the likes of Samuel L Jackson,Tim Roth,John Travolta,Bruce Willis and Quentin Tarantino,
Now I don't need to tell you Pulp Fiction is a cult classic as you should already know that. To me Pulp Fiction is a puzzle and all the pieces fit together perfectly. I enjoyed this film a lot and quite frankly I think everyone who has watched this film has enjoyed it.

As you are probably aware this film shows events out of sequence as it it is telling three stories that are all interconnected and it works very well.  The acting is awesome even Quentin's cameo. For those who have not seen Pulp Fiction please go  rent or buy it and check it out as you have no idea what your missing.

The Green Hornet (2011) Review

Hi all I have watched another recent film The Green Hornet.
Spoilers if haven't  seen the movie.

Synopsis:

Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) who is a 28 year old irresponsible slacker and son of widower James Reid (Tom Wilknson,) publisher of the L.A newspaper The Daily Sentinel. Britt's  attitude changes when his father is found dead from a  bee sting. After the funeral, Britt fires all his staff but re-hires Kato (Jay Chou) when Britt realises his coffee tastes bad when Kato doesn't make it. After Britt finds out that Kato has made all these fancy gadgets, Britt decides too fight crime when he witnesses and stop an attempted mugging.

  My Thoughts:

So to begin with let me start with saying I have not read any of the comics nor have I seen any of the previous films. I can see why this film failed at the box office.  The humour is terrible I will admit I did laugh at a few scenes but overall it really didn't work.

During the movie there is a scene where Britt and Kato get flashed by a speed camera which they then blow up, Now correct me if I'm wrong about this but speed cameras these days are digital so when they flash the photo is saved to a computer system somewhere? So in other words Britt would still be in trouble by the police also I think the care had revolving number plates so the car's number plate had Green Hornet on it rather then the real number? So there really was no need to blow up the speed camera?
Just a thought.

This film only becomes good around the second to third act. So near the middle to last part of the film. The first part is a bit dull, compared to the rest of the film.
Nearly every actor in this film tries to hard to be funny and fails. I stopped watching then came back to it several times as my mind keep wondering I was that bored.

I may take a look at some of the other Green Hornet films.

The Mist (2007) Film Review.

Hi all, Got another movie review for you,
It's the mist. Caution spoilers.

The Synopsis:

Members of a small town called Bridgton, Maine, who after a serve thunderstorm meet at the local supermarket to pick up supplies. While they are at the supermarket a mysterious mist envelops the town which conceals otherworldly monsters while extreme tensions rise amongst the survivors.

My thoughts:

The mist to me was incredibly stupid, I will say there are a few good things about it, which are:
the music soundtrack.
The soundtrack was great, It added a certain feel to the film although I felt that it was not needed in some scenes or at least something else could have been used.

Some good scenes.
There are some good scenes like when the giant bug like insects land on the windows and the people at the store back away then realise that they are attracted to the lights just as larger monsters show up.
also when David Drayton (Thomas Jane) (the main character),his son and a three others get too his car in the parking lot and drive past every one  at the store with the headlights shining on them with the soundtrack playing.

but apart from that I didn't like it. We pretty much see the monsters about 10 to 20 mins in so the mystery of what's in the mist is ruined, as that is what keeps you interested. The characters are all-right but are clichéd with the religion fanatic who is a horrible person and really annoying, the main character David Drayton is well the main character so you know he can't/won't die. When Ollie (Toby Jones) dies the gun he was holding conveniently falls on the front of the car owned by David and in easy reach.  Also the gun has four shots left. I can't see where this is heading *sarcasm*. Well they travel back to David's house and find his wife is dead, they continue travelling until they run into the biggest of the monsters, It doesn't see them they continue and  run out off petrol, Then thinking the monsters are right behind them David kills everyone else in the car including his son. He then steps out of the car yelling at the monsters to kill him only for the military to show up out of the mist, David then realises he has killed his son and friends and was going in the wrong direction getting away from help. This was a different ending from the novel, which they survive well maybe.

Final Thoughts:

The mist is based off the Novella of the same name, Written by Steven King.
Which I have not read.  Its directed by Frank Darabont  who also directed Shawshank Redemption which is also a Steven King novel, I am amassed he did a poor job on this one.
This film to me was boring and very very stupid. In fact it made me angry which doesn't happen that often.
Why does this film exist? from what  I have read a lot of critics liked this film and gave it high scores. They say this film brings something new to the table, No it doesn't its the same type of horror movie as the others. Also the jump scares are not scary there stupid. This film is very M. Night Shyamalan in it style.
So there you go.

Shawshank Redemption (1994) A retro film review

Hi all, Well last night I took on the 1994 film Shawshank Redemption.
here is a basic run down of the plot without giving too much away even if most people have seen it now.

File:ShawshankRedemptionMoviePoster.jpg

A basic summary of the plot:
A man called Andy Dufresene (Tim Robbins) is arrested and charged for the murder of his wife and her lover. A crime he states he did not commit and that someone else did. Andy is found guilty and sentenced at Shawshank prison and given two life sentences one for each of the victims. Once inside he meets a man named Red (Morgan Freeman)  A man "who knows how to get things." Andy also meets the man who runs Shawshank Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton) and Brutal Chief  guard Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown.) As the years go by Andy gets more and more despite to escape. Andy cuts a deal with the Warden as Andy is quite smart and uses it to his advantage.

My thoughts:
This film was stunning to see and very enjoyable. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are cast superbly for Andy and Red. The pay off near the end is brilliant.
This film also gave us one off the top 100 lines in film history "Get busy livin,' or get busy dyin." I really enjoyed watching this film and should watch a few more Steven King adaptations, like the Shinning (1980).
Which again is on my list of films to watch. I just need to find a copy. If anyone has a copy of the Shinning please let me borrow it.

Favourite line:
Does it have to be said.
"Get busy livin,' or get busy dyin"

Favourite scene:

This whole scene in it's entity. Andy and the gang overhears Byron Hadley and  talking about money issues and his wife with some other guards, Andy then approaches them and gives Byron a proposal this nearly gets him thrown off the roof. But it works out and they are allowed to drink on the roof the next time they are up there. Totally bad-ass.  That is why it's my Favourite scenes in the film.

Blade (1998) A Retro Film Review

Hey everyone.
I have another Film review for you. This time it's the 1998 film Blade.

What's it about:
Blade is a vampire superhero move loosely based of the Marvel comics of the same name.
staring Wesley Snipes as Blade who hunts down vampires for revenge as one killed his mother after giving birth to him and now he is trying to find that vampire and kill him.

File:Blade movie.jpg

My thoughts:
As I have not read the comic it's based on I can't compare it. On it's own its a fun filed film packed full of blood but as it's a vampire movie that's too be expected but at the same time its also a Marvel film so the blood has a cartoonish feel to it. The Acting from Wesley is a joy too watch as he rips through vampire after vampire. Also N'Bushe Wright as Dr. Karen Jenson as I guess I could call her a sidekick to Blade is a great addition too the film. All the cast have been brilliantly chosen and have the right chemistry for the film.

Final thoughts:
This film has a great storyline and a brilliant cast and as of far one of the better Vampire Films I have seen If you have become bored of the so called Vampire films of today (cough Twilight cough) I would recommend checking this film out only if you want too though.  That's another film off my list.

NEXT UP: The Shawshank Redemption.

It Can't Rain All The Time... A Retro Film Review

Hey. Well I have been trying to finish my TAFE work for a few weeks now don't worry it's almost done. But anyway  I decided too take a break and Looked at the movies  I have on my computer. Now I have a list of movies I want to see I guess you could call it a bucket list. So the film I chose to watch was the 1994 film The Crow. Which I have heard was a great film.

When I say the Crow I mean The film where Brandon Lee lost his life in. Mind you I don't know what other film I could be referring too unless you count any of these City of angels,Stairway to Heaven, Salvation and Wicked Prayer.

Any way to the point I am here to talk about:

The Synopsis:
A soon to be wed couple are murdered on Devil's Night October 30th and a year latter a crow brings the man back to life to get revenge on the men who killed him and his Fiancé.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this film its' on the same level as Tim Burton's Batman movies maybe going a bit beyond Batman.
There are some great lines in this film and great scenes some examples are below.

This is one of the famous scenes in the film and one of my Favourite scenes in the film.

Favourite line:
There are a few good ones but the one that stands out too me is.
"Is that Gasoline I smell"

If you Have not seen this film I would highly recommend checking it out helpfully you won't be disappointed after all It can't rain all the time can it?

The First Rule of Fight Club (1999) A Retro Film Review

Ok It's time to take to take a look at another film from the vault well as I like to call it anyway. (What is the vault? the vault is when I watch a film from the 1900s to 1999)
Its time for Fight Club.

File:Fight Club poster.jpg

I loved it this film in my mind this film is a classic and well worth watching. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton have great Chemistry together. Plus Helena Bonham Carter was a great Addition.

I loved the Story and the twists and turns the film takes is mind blowing.
The People who get involved with Fight club are just your everyday people as well so their jobs are like police officers or work as waiters but when it's time to fight It doesn't matter what job you have you just fight. So Awesome.

The next film on my list of films from the vault to watch will either be
Blade or The Shawshank Redemption.

Back to it

Well Its the end of the holidays now back to work tomorrow. Which I must admit I can't wait for as I'm over the holidays and work will give me something to do with my time plus I will get some income again. Also need to start working on my TAFE staff again Groan but as I need to finish this course off so I can move on with my life I shouldn't be complaining. Also apparently I only have half  a year to go.

There is only one thing  I regret not doing during the holidays and that's not going down to Melbourne and seeing an old friend Kenneth and his dad and sister. Just going to have to wait for next holiday's

This heat is really annoying that my brain feels like mush and it's hard to think of what to write.
Also another thing I can't wait for is bible study to start again as its always fun talking about the bible with friends.

I guess that will be all for now. I need more water.

Barefoot Gen (1983) a Anime review

A few nights ago I decided to open a a book about Anime movies. After looking at a few pages I have made it my goal to watch all the films in this book think of it as the 101 or more anime films to watch before you die. The first movie listed is a 1983 anime film called Barefoot Gen.

What it's about:
Barefoot Gen is about a boy and his families life leading up to and through the real life tragedy of the Hiroshima Bomb.

The visuals:
the Visuals in this film are both terrifying and fantastic because this film tells it how it was. Especially when you see the bomb drop and explode then seeing people (for a lack of a better term) melt. I felt a sense of shock and horror when I saw that I had to keep reminding myself this really happened.
I guess that's why I enjoy these types of films to remind us that not everything in history was smart or funny. That their are parts of history that are so dark that we need to remember them rather then sweep them under the rug and forget. This is one of them.

This film will make your heart race and make you stare in complete horror but that's the point.

Final Thoughts.
If your an anime fan or a movie critic in general I really recommend seeing this film. Only if you think you can stomach it. I am not kidding on the effect this film may have on you. I really enjoyed it.

ON to the next film.

Red Dog (2011) film Review

I saw the movie Red Dog while I was in the blue mountains.

A basic summary of the plot:
It's about a Dog called Red Dog. Who meets this community in an outback Australian town called Dampier and completely changes their lives for the better. Everyone who meets Red Dog loves him. A Trucker named Thomas arrives at  a pub in this town,  when he enters the pub he sees some silhouettes of some men one who looks like he is holding a gun, Thinking that a murder is about to take place Thomas runs into the room to see the man who has the gun holding it towards a sick dog, The men unable to do the euthanasia leave the room along with Thomas and back to the bar where they talk about the story of Red Dog.

My Thoughts:
This film is most definitely an emotional thrill ride, all the way though.
The story is in depth and wonderful trust me anyone who does not have a cold heart will get water under the eyes.
As the story of Red Dog is told in this little pub to both Thomas and the audience, you start too feel an emotional connection to the characters and the dog, It's also based on a true story and a book.

The dog is beautiful to look at.

If you have not seen this film yet go  buy or rent it you won't be disappointed.
I won't be forgetting Red Dog for a while that's for sure.
Just one tip: you may want to have some tissues handy.

I don't have a favourite scene or line for this film as its all good.

21 and a few goals.

Right my birthday was a few days ago. Now I'm 21 and there are a few things I want to do this year.

1. Finish TAFE. I am officially over it and just want it too end. So I am going to have to work hard at it.

2. Start working full time. The sooner I start working full time the better. Not only will I have a better income. I  will also then be able to concentrate on other important things.

3. Find a Girlfriend. OK I have been ignoring this one for far too long now and  now that I'm 21 I think I need to concentrate on this one a bit more now.

4. Ride my bike more. Again I need to do more exercise and using a bike is a good place to start off.

5. Join a gym. This one follows 4. I got a slipped disk last year and It wrecked the way I walked. So joining a gym is probably the best answer for it.

So their you go a few goals for me for this year. Now too start work on them.
