R.I.P Nicholas Courtney aka the Brigadier.

on the 22nd of February 2011 Nicholas Courtney famous for portraying Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart  in the classic series of Doctor Who has passed away at the age of 81 after a short battle with cancer. A little info about Nicholas Courtney.

Born in Cairo Egypt in 1929 to a British diplomat and educated in France,Kenya and Egypt. He served his Natural Service in the British Army leaving after 18 months  as a private, not wanting to pursue a military career. He next joined the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, and after two years began doing repertory theater in Northampton. From there he moved to London.


He first appeared in Doctor Who in 1965 in the episode The Daleks Master Plan. Directed by Douglas Camfield where he played space security agent Bret Vyon opposite first Doctor William Hartnell. Camfield liked Courtney's appearance so much that when he was signed on to direct the Web of Fear in 1968 He ask Nicholas to play the part of captain Knight. But when the actor who was signed to play colonel Lethbridge-Stewart backed out Camfield recast Nicholas to play him. Nicholas Courtney went on to play Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart opposite second Doctor Patrick Troughton, Third Doctor Jon Pertwee, Fourth Doctor Tom Baker, Fifth Doctor Peter Davison and Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy on TV and appeared on Doctor Who audios with Sixth Doctor Colin Baker, Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy, Eighth Doctor Paul Mcgann and David Tennant who was not playing his Doctor role at the time. 


R.I.P Nicholas Courtney i hope your having a good laugh with William Patrick and Jon in heaven.
